Happy Halloween! - Day 78

Hi Julie! Thanks for the following my blog.

My hubby and I didn't dress up for Halloween this year. Maybe next year! The Princess Leia costume was too big for the baby so she went as a baby dragon. The Chewbacca costume was too small for the toddler but he didn't want to wear it any way and ended up being Spider Man. Our eldest was very happy in his Captain Rex (from Clone Wars) costume. It was too big but he didn't care at all. He was really happy! Now if I was thinking ahead I would have taken one of my new allergy stickers from AllergyKids.com and put it on his trick-or-treat Batman candy carrier. We have to be VERY careful about candy with nuts and peanuts. Next year I will try to remember that sticker! We had a good time.

Flash Back Friday #12 - Halloween

Oh I've got one for you! I remember going to see this movie with my two older brothers. I made it half way through this song and they showed the pumpkins and I said, "No! I'm not watching this!" and I went to see Grease instead! lol but geez do I remember this music and the whole scene like it was yesterday. I don't think I have ever watched Halloween all the way through. Scary!

Glory Days - Day 79

Glory Days song of the day by Bruce Springstein. Yesterday when I went to help my buddy with accounting we just happen to go through our old high school year books. There is an old class mate that she has reconnected with and they spoke of me. This girl thought I didn't like her because of some ethnic reason. I lost it! I most likely went through many days of high school being annoyed about something. There was too much going on in those days. Glory Days sort of and if I could go back and do this or that who knows. I do know where I am now though and if I sit long enough and it's quiet enough then and only then can I truly know where I am in my life. That doesn't happen too often. Seems like I need more time to reflect. I'll have to work on that. Now if I could only get that border off of my signature.....

Thursday Thirteen #50 - Jokes

Ever have those days when you need to laugh to keep from crying? Well here's a post for you! I need more humor in my life so I'm going for 13 clean jokes here. Feel free to add one in the comment section if you have a good one.
1.) Why are aliens afraid to eat clowns? Because they taste funny.
2.) What kind of pants to ghosts wear? Scaredy pants.
3.) Two confirmed bachelors sat talking, their conversation drifted from politics to cooking. "I got a cookbook once," said one, "but I could never do anything with it." "Too much fancy work in it, eh?" asked the other. "You said it. Every one of the recipes began the same
way - 'Take a clean dish."

4.) How do you annoy an archaeologist? give him a tampon and ask what period it came from
5.) What's 6 inches long , 2 inches wide, and thrills women? Money!
6.) What shouldn't you wear at a coffee bar? A "tea" shirt!
7.) Wanna hear a dirty joke? A little boy falls into the mud
8.) What do you call a sheep with no legs? A cloud
9.) What do you get when you cross an elephant and a rhino? el-if-i-no
10.) Two peanuts walk into a bar. One was a salted.
11.)What is the main reason Santa is so jolly? He knows where all the badf girls live.
12.) What do you do when your dishwasher stops working? Yell at her.
13.) What do you call a musician without a girlfriend? Homeless.

Testing, Testing 1, 2....

What's going on? Well I'm trying out this signature feature. I see lots of signatures at the end of posts and I think it's pretty cool. There are lots of different ways to do this but I chose signature maker. Then I had to find the code and instructions in order to figure out how to make it appear in each post without having to manually put it there each time. Let me save you some time here! Click here for the code and instructions. I also got an email from mommyranks and she's given us a code to post voting buttons within our posts. Let's test it out and see how it works shall we? Here it goes!
The voting button didn't work where I put it. I'm not liking that box around my name either. Hmmmm I'm going to put that voting button in the edit html part of this post. I'm not going to want to do that every time that is for sure. - It didn't work. Hmmm?

After further consideration I created my own signature in photoshop and then put that in the code instead. I always have to put my own twist on things. :)

The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything

I fell in love with this book written by positive psychologist and author Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein. The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything) is a great blast to the past. I had not been in touch with my inner 10 year old self until I read this book. Honestly, when I was a young girl I didn't keep a diary. Although as an adult I wish I had because it would have been interesting to read the things that I was going through during that time. This book is great for parents and kids to read and just in time for the holidays too. I would place it in a stocking for sure! This diary like book follows the journey of a 10 year old girl who is discovering her independence and writing about friendships, her first love and her relationship with her parents. She has a strong character, she's smart and has very real feelings. As we get older with responsibilities we sometimes forget what it's like to be a kid. It's not easy and there are so many questions and concerns that kids have and they need answers. Every girl has had her "Paul!" The first guy she just knew she was going to grow up and marry. She wrote a lot about her parents fighting which should be a reminder to all parents how fighting effects your children. Of course there will be disagreements but there should be rules so that your children aren't scared and feel impending doom. At the end of the book there is a great list of questions for discussion. Today I was getting ready to write my review for this book and had it out on the table. My 8 year old son out of no where picked it up and plopped down on the couch and started reading it. I just glanced his way, I didn't say anything at first. Later after he put the book down I asked him why he picked it up. He told me it looked interesting. I asked him what he thought about it. He said it was neat but he only made it through the first half of the book. I wouldn't count a son or father out as readers of this book. It might give them a little window into the life of girls!

I know you are so curious by now you can't stand it right? I've got a copy to give to you if you want it! How can you win a copy? Easy, leave me a comment and let me know you would like to win. Contest is open to U.S. residence only until 11:59pm CST 11/5. The winner will be announced November 6th by 9am cst. If the winner has not left valid contact information another winner will be drawn. Good Luck!

Gone Baby Gone: Movie Review

When a 4-year-old girl goes missing in Dorchester, one of Boston's toughest hoods, private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro (Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan) reluctantly agree to take the case. But the investigation proves tougher, riskier and more complex than they could have imagined. Ben Affleck's directorial debut, adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel, also stars Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman and Amy Ryan (in her first Oscar-nominated role). - Netflix

This is by far one of the most disturbing movies I have seen in a while. It's a shame it had all the cursing in it because it still could have been a good movie. My mom stopped paying attention to the movie because every other word (that's exaggerating) was the F word. Oh and throw in the heavy Boston accent for Casey Affleck's character. It was hard to understand. If you can get past that this movie is full of twists and turns. Just when you think you have it all figured it out they throw in another plot twist. The ending lends itself to a moral dilemma and what would would you do and what is the right thing to do? I don't want to spoil it for you in case you haven't seen it yet. I was looking for my dvd of Prison Break so I could push what I had just seen out of my head. It's very thought provoking! Go for it! Put it in your queue and if you have seen it, what did you think?

Flash Back Friday #11 - Try a Little Tenderness

Remember when they released all those wonderful movies in the 80's? Molly Ringwald was a reigning queen back then with Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink. I was blipping some music and ran across this song Try a Little Tenderness and it made me think of Duckie! It just reminds me of how hard it was and still is to be a teenager. Good Times.

The Unforgettable Fire - Day 84

Song of the day The Unforgettable Fire by U2 because that's all I've been doing today, putting out fires. I really don't like having technical bug issues with html or css codes or any code. It's almost like looking for a needle in a haystack and I'm not a technical person at all. I don't mind learning but I have a hard time spending long periods of time on anything. Thursday Thirteen #49 - Murphy's Laws

I was looking up Murphy's Law because I thought there was only one but I found many. It seemed like a fun post for Thursday Thirteen.
1.) In order to get a loan, you must first prove you don't need it.
2.) When a broken appliance is demonstrated for the repairman, it will work perfectly.
3.) Everyone has a scheme for getting rich that will not work.
4.) Never argue with a fool, people might not know the difference.
5.) There's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it over.
6.) Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral or fattening.
7.) If it jams - force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.
8.) The other line always moves faster.
9.) If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
10.) You will always find something in the last place you look.
11.) Murphy's golden rule: whoever has the gold makes the rules.
12.) When in doubt, mumble. When in trouble, delegate.
13.) Build a system that even a fool can use, and only a fool will use it.

Star Wars - Day 86

hippos toes - Thanks for following me on blogger! Guess how sneaky I am? We had not purchased Halloween costumes yet. A Party City ad came in the mail today and my son found it. We found stuff online and headed over to the store. It was a zoo! I had to make it home in time to feed all the kids and get ready for soccer practice. We have a busy evening ahead with cub scouts afterward. We ditched Party City and ordered it all online. Ready? The boy is going to be Clone Trooper Rex on the left, our toddler is going to be chewbacca and baby P is going to be Princess Leia.
I can't wait! They are going to be so stinkin' cute! Have you guys bought your costumes yet? I shopped here.

Babies R Us - Exchanged Products

We made it to Babies R Us yesterday and made the switch from the collapsing Rainforest play pen by Fisher Price to the Safari Animals by Graco. I'm a huge fan of Graco products because I know they are safe and reliable in my experience. We had a Graco from 9 years ago that still worked like a charm. We got rid of it because we didn't need two. This pack and play was such a great deal we were able to get a couple of crib toys too!

I'm Rocking My Own Socks! - Day 88

I've learned so much in the last couple of days it's crazy. First on Twitter MommyJenna was working on a project. She wanted to number her comments in blogger! I too asked about this a while back but the person I asked was using WordPress and I was told it was a complex code so I blew it off. When MommyJenna brought it up again I was curious. I figured out the code thanks to this site right here and MommyJenna sending me the link and it didn't work at first but that's because I put one line of the code in the wrong place. Then I was blog hopping for Aloha Friday and ran across a blog that had a comment form on the post rather than the pop up comment page and it was a blogger blog. I wanted it! After a little research I switched to Blogger draft mode and here is my comment form. Guess what? The comments are still numbered and it all works well. I love it! Leave a comment so you can see the changes for yourself!

All Star - Day 89

All Star by Smash Mouth is my song of the day! Dedicated to my super soccer star. They won their game today and then it was off to his make-up birthday party! Since hurricane Ike came and ruined any party plans on his actual birthday. We had a bowling party at 3pm.
We sat there waiting for people to show and no one was on time. That was so scary. My son kept asking what time it was and if anyone was going to come. There's nothing like that fear of no one coming to your child's birthday party. I think I would burst into tears if that happened! Luckily kids and parents started coming about 15 minutes after. Thank goodness because I was doing my best to reassure him that people were just fashionably late.
I wasn't going to bowl but we parents decided to take a lane and that was the best time I've had in a really long time. I can't remember the last time I bowled but I think it's been more than 5 years. We had the best time and it was such a stress reliever to hurl a ball down the lane! I strongly suggest it. The kids loved it too because they put those side rails up. All in all a tiring but really cool day with the family.

Rainforest Portable Baby Play Yard by Fisher Price

I registered for this Rainforest portable baby play yard by Fisher Price at Babies R Us. My mom gave it to me at my shower. I was absolutely in love with this product. It has a side storage compartment for diapers and wipes and I love the mobile that came with it. It plays music and the lights blink! The whole set was just adorable and fit nicely in our home office. What a perfect set up. The problem started when the side bar collapsed. I thought it was just a fluke but any time we touched the side or the netting the side bar would collapse. It actually collapsed while she was in it! I realized this was not a fluke that it was in fact defective. I phoned the number in the instruction manual that came with it but never got through to any one. I phoned Babies R Us and explained the situation and they agreed to take it back. They can't exchange it for the same one because they no longer carry it. Hmmm? But they will give me something that will be comparable. I'll let you know what we get! Whatever it is will be safer than this one. Way to go Babies R Us for your rockin' customer service.

I chose the Nancy style because I fell in love with the colors and the sporty shoe style is cute! They arrived in the mail in this silver box design. I love it! It's perfect for gift giving or if you're like me and have a toddler in the house you can pass it on to them. They will turn it into a toy storage carrying case. See Kai Run is really thinking ahead on their packaging design. These adorable soft suede sporty shoes retail for only $35.oo. The size we have is 0-6 months. Priscilla is 2 months old and her foot measures 4" already! They are flexible and provide her with comfort. Because they have the velcro closures I don't have to worry about them falling off her foot and losing a shoe. I'm also comforted with the knowledge that their "... footwear has been awarded the American Podiatric Medical Association's prestigious Seal of Acceptance. More info." My toddler has what is commonly known as pigeon toed and it's important to me that my children are wearing appropriate footwear. I'm happy to start baby Priscilla off right! Here she is sporting her new Nancy shoes. Would you like to win a pair from See Kai Run's smaller line? Great! Here are the guidelines. This contest is open to U.S. residents only. Special thanks to Shake The Salt who helped me win at The Posh Parent. What's the big deal? I won a baby pouch from Rockin Baby Slings. Heck yes it's a big deal because I need my hands to be free. My daughter Q and I have a blast checking out the latest baby products. I will call her and she comes over and we play! We tried the different positions. First we tried the back carry position for the toddler he's 33 pounds. It works great! I'm still getting use to all the positions and it does take some getting use to but I love it! The baby loves it. Her favorite when she is fussy is the cradle hold position but when she's happy she loves the kangaroo position! Here's a little video footage for your viewing pleasure.

Forever Young - Day 91

Song of the day Forever Young by Rod Stewart. Today, with all of my little guys antics it reminded me of how much I cherish this time with him. As hard as it is to do what I do and to juggle everything, I wouldn't trade it. Some days I get paid in hugs and kisses and other days I get paid with nothing but tears. That's ok it comes with the territory. I didn't get to stay with my eldest and I swore that if I ever got the opportunity that I would stay with my children. I couldn't go through that experience again. It's a shame that I didn't get that time with her because it just flew by. Now she's a grown woman and I can't turn back the clock. I have to just remind myself every now and then that they grow up very quickly and to treasure it. I'm blessed to have days where I can get all these cute photos and string them in a slide show to share with the world. Much like today when our toddler wanted to wear his daddy's clothes. I'm always looking to have a life outside of being a mom but I'm reminded that there always has to be balance.

Thursday Thirteen #49 - Can't You Hear Me?

Ever find yourself yelling at your kids, "Can't you hear me!?" We have. Sadly the answer is, "No I didn't hear you" Our son has been bothered by fluid in his ears for most of his life. When he was 6 he got ear tubes and was cured, we thought. Here are some signs not to ignore.
1.) Constantly yelling for your child but they don't respond. You might think they are ignoring you.
2.) You believe the television is turned up too loud. Maybe your telling your child to turn the tv down.
3.) They get in trouble at school. They have to sit out from recess or get marks in class.
4.) You might hear from the teacher that your child doesn't focus.
5.) You might hear from the teacher that your child isn't paying attention.
6.) You might hear from the teacher that your child isn't listening to instructions.
7.) Your child talks loudly.
8.) Frequent runny nose.
9.) Frequent sore throat.
10.) Frequent sinus infections.
11.) Frequent ear infections.
12.) Your child sounds like they are talking through their nose.
13.) The volume on the computer or their games is turned up to the highest setting.
Our little guy was getting in trouble at school and thank goodness that they had his hearing problems from last year in his information. If the teacher and I had not discussed this at length I might not have caught this again.

Wordless Wednesday - Immunization Shots

Sorry - Day 93

Poor little baby girl got her immunization shots today. She has been feeling terrible and just screaming without any warning. She is upset and her little legs are hurt. One shot in the left thigh and two in the right thigh and of course an oral polio vaccination. What a great day for our little princess. They did give her those cute little Bugs Bunny band-aids. Her big brothers felt really sorry for her. She's now weighing in at a whopping 13 pounds and is 22 inches long.

We just got her a pair of Nancy shoes today! Can't wait to take some photos. Time to go watch The Biggest Loser.

Let 'em In - Day 95

ScaryMom - Hey there new blogger follower! Thanks for the add. Today was a most productive day. I have gotten so many things done it is bananas. I'm a little behind on reviews but don't worry there is lots to come. This post is going to be brief because I have got to get some sleep! I'm ready for a weekend that involves fun. The best thing I have seen all weekend is a soccer game and Prison Break. I'm catching up with the season through Netflix. There's only about 40 minutes left to enter to win the Groovy Ruby cd. Good Luck.

Are you feeling the pressure of the holidays fast on your heels? I feel it.

Smart People: A Movie Review

An unexpected romance with a charming former student (Sarah Jessica Parker) and a surprise visit from his wild adopted brother (Thomas Haden Church) conspire to turn the life of surly widowed professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) upside down. But after nursing his bitterness for so many years, is the self-absorbed academic ready for change? Ellen Page and Ashton Holmes co-star in this witty dramedy from director Noam Murro.

I was expecting way too much from the characters in this movie. This is a great cast but the plot just stinks! All I got out of this movie is that smart people are lonely people because they are too pompous to have any type of relationship with those who are different. There are different types of intelligence but if it's academic you're going to be lonely. That's all I got out of this movie. Save your money for something more entertaining! Just wait till this is shown on a cable channel because it isn't even rental worthy.

Rated R For language, brief teen drug and alcohol use, and for some sexuality.

Cast:
Dennis Quaid

Workin' Day & Night - Day 96

Alyson, the 3 P's Mama
hellokittiemama
Hello to my new blogger followers! Thanks for joining me here on my little blog. We did get the new washing machine from Lowes. They had it in stock and ready to go. It is a much lower grade than what my hubby chose before but I really don't care. I just want it to wash clothes. :)

I'm easy peasy! We bought a carpet shampooer too. Looks like I have my work cut out for me today. *sigh* But a good sigh.

There is only one more day to sign up for the Groovy Ruby cd!

Bewitched - Day 97

I can't believe I found the theme to Bewitched! You remember the television show that was made into a movie? It's my song of the day dedicated to my post on 31 Days of Make Believe. A group of us got together and answered some questions in a very make believe sort of way. If you have time maybe you can stop by for a giggle.

The post below pretty much sums up my day! Although before I left I did get the boys showered and fed for the evening. My son made some killer brownies and I took some to my mom. She was so surprised that he baked them. He rocks!

There are only 2 days left to enter to win Groovy Ruby Swag! Click on the link in the top right side bar for more details.

Home Depot: WARNING

Look what my darling husband picked out for us! He went to HomeDepot.com and placed our order and got a confirmation code with a delivery date of 10/10/08. That's today! We've been waiting for this delivery all week. I've been doing laundry at my moms but it was ok because this nifty set was coming today. At least that is what I thought. Today my hubby called to find out what the 2 hour window was for delivery. To our surprise this set is not actually available online and he was told that their website needed to be "rebooted."

Are you flippin serious!? We have a confirmation code Home Depot! Your site gave us a delivery date and processed our order. None of your customer service reps could tell us what happened. Of course the only person that could possibly know what is going on is the manager. Guess what? We have no washer or dryer coming today!

Here is my warning consumers, before you purchase from Home Depot.com you might want to double check your order. That's right! Double check it before you rely on a deliver date. Double check that the product is actually available to be delivered. I'm beyond disappointed! Will I shop Home Depot.com again? NO.
