Aloha Friday #250 - Have You Ever...

Laughed so hard when you were drinking something that it came out of your nose?
My poor son fell victim to his glass of milk after he told me a silly joke. He laughed so hard...you get the idea.

Dear Negative Nancys

Dear Negative Nancys,
You ladies completely ruined my work out today. I normally enjoy my work outs. I don't hate the gym, or exercising or breaking a sweat! This is my "me" time away from my family. I use it wisely by destressing and coming home a more relaxed wife and mother.

When I'm here to work out I have to really focus on what I'm doing, my form and work on my own positive mantra. It goes something like this, "Yes you're tired but you can do this!" "Yes it's heavy, but you can lift this!" "Yes, you're out of breath, but if you take a moment to breath deeply, you can catch it!" "Yes, your arms and legs feel like jello but at the end you will be stronger than when you walked in!" There are more but you get the idea.

Today while working out next to you all I heard was "I can't do this." Well then guess what? you can't. Then I heard "I don't want to lift that because I don't want to be sore tomorrow." Oh and my favorite "I'm going to get a bruise!" But wait, that's not all, after you two finished your first set you sat down and had a chat fest about how much you didn't want to be here. Are you kidding me? I tried to get all of you out my ear shot. I moved to the other side but your negative mantra started to creep inside my head. All of a sudden I was slowing down, my weights were feeling heavy, my energy and focus were dwindling. Never have I had a bad work out until today. Even though our trainer would come over and try to keep me going with words of encouragement it was a near thing. I wanted to walk out of the gym. My attitude stunk, my focus was gone and then I realized, I'm spoiled. I love working out with people that want to be at the gym, they want to get stronger, faster and live healthier lives. So negative nancys you might want to spend a little more time at home doing work out dvds so you can keep your negative attitude to yourself. No one at the gym wants to hear it. Yes we want to encourage you and yes we will help build you up but you have to start with yourself first. Some days it's so hard to get to the gym because of all the chaos of life. Don't bring other people down with you.

It is never my intent to allow you to get in my head but today you ladies out numbered me. I may never ever see you again in the gym because it was so hard for you. That is what is most upsetting because with all that complaining you did the odds of you sticking with it is slim. I wish you well, really I do. But please if you are going to get healthy it starts in your head! Good luck Nancys.

#Mamavation Monday - Shouldn't I Be Skinny By Now?

Mamavation
The quick answer is NO. Why? The other day I was looking back three years ago at my bank statements looking for the name of a cleaning company. What I saw blew my mind! Several charges right in row, fast food place, another fast food place, another, another and another. WT? Were we really eating out that much? Yes. Bank statements have no reason to lie. If I ate like that in 2007 and stopped at the end of 2009 then I still have a long way to go. There never seems to be a quick fix or if there is it comes back to haunt you any way. I'm going for weight loss but really life changes for me and my family. It's like having to relearn everything all over again. In gym class I was not the one that wanted run laps just for fun. lol - I will now just because I can.

Have you caught Heavy on A&E? What about the show I Use To Be Fat on MTV? Personally I watch to see if I can learn something and I do. I take away something, a lesson learned, a new food or training tip. What blows me away about The Biggest Loser and I Use To Be Fat is the amount of hours in one day that they work out. My max workout has been 2 hours back to back. Could that be why I'm not losing the weight that I think I should.

Pizza Hut - 1 visit
Texas Roadhouse - 1 visit - made good choices from the menu this time. I really thought about it.

My Work Outs -
Monday - Boot Camp with Dex. Shred with Jillian.
Tuesday -Crossfit Training with Shaun. Shred with Jillian.
Wednesday - Boot Camp with Dex. Shred with Jillian.
Thursday - Shred with Jillian, Reformer Pilates
Friday -Boot Camp with Dex. Shred with Jillian
Saturday - Elliptical, Shred with Jillian
Sunday - Shred with Jillian

Scale Reading -180 and that is a 1 pound gain. I weighed myself daily just to track and research. Sunday I didn't hit the gym. I also slacked a little over dinner. That combination resulted in a gain this week. At least I think it did.

Stress Level - The Mr. is still gone. My son had issues at school and home all week. It was not good.

The UP side -I tried something different this week by taking reformer pilates. It was an eye opening experience. No matter how strong I think that I am there are always some muscles that still need to be worked! I'm still hanging in there with the 30 Day Shred.

A bit of inspiration for you ladies!
Remember - YOU are a role model.

BLOGGING CARNIVAL: This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by Fiber Plus. By answering the questions below I’m entering a blogging carnival sponsored by Fiber Plus and will be receiving a free sample in return.

Question: How are you getting more fiber in your diet this New Year?
I'm trying to eat tons of apples daily. My crossfit trainer Shaun McCrary was telling me how eats many of them daily. It seemed simple enough and there is such a wide variety of flavors! I'm starting to research more foods with high fiber content. I think this blogging carnival showed up just in the nick of time for me.

#PottyDance - Will Potty For...

Will potty for lollipops? Heck yes! It's an update on potty training. One weekend my Mother and Grandmother caught Silly holding herself so they took her to the big potty and had success. I tried this at home but she would not go for it! She had zero interest in the potty chair. I took the potty chair and hid it! Then she started holding herself and I would sit her on the big potty. I'll be darn the girl went potty! We cheered, we danced, we wiped, flushed, washed hands and picked out a Dum Dum lollipop. We made potty calls to everyone she wanted to call! She even called one of her Uncles at work and when he answered she said, "I pee peed in the potty!" and he hung up on her. I'm pretty sure he thought that was a prank call. lol

This was all step 1 - waiting for her to do her pee pee dance and then taking her to the bathroom. We were now working on step 2 - tell me when you have to go potty! Low and behold she started going on her own into the bathroom. I would hear her and rush in there to listen and help out. She would then begin to yell out, "I go potty!" and then race off to the bathroom. Whoot! Step 3 - tell other people that you have to go potty. This is what we are working on right now. Yesterday I forgot to put a pull up on her and lucky for me no accidents at the Y! Today she went to church in her big girl panties and no accidents! Could it be true? Could we really be almost out of pull ups? She's still wearing diapers over night but WOW is this progress! She is officially 2 years and 5 months old.

We watched the videos and read books and she knew exactly what to do. All I had to do was wait for her to decide she wanted too. I won't always have a lollipop with me which is good because eventually we have to ween her off the treats. For now....I'm going to allow her to enjoy her success. Whoo Hoo!

**Update** Step 4? - We are also working on pooing in the potty! She will go and put a pull up on and hide some where. What is that? lol

365 Project - 1 Photo a Day

The 365 Project is a really cool site that encourages you to pick a subject and upload a photo a day. The site allows you to have a visual diary to look back on with your friends and improve your photography. You can get tips on better ways to take a photo.

Normally I am behind the camera and if there is a photo of me it is rare. There is one person that takes my photo all the time. He grabs my digital camera and literally points and shoots. He captures me in my most natural states. For some reason I don't seem to mind. I'm not looking for that perfect head shot.

In order for me to get comfortable being in front of the camera and face myself instead of hiding I have enlisted his help. He's going to join me in sharing a photo a day! I don't know of any other four year old photographers. The subject is me through his lens.

Thanks to Widget Box I have created a widget that will summarize our journey together in the side bar. What about you? Are you keeping up with any online visual diaries?

#Mamavation Monday - They Don't Fit Mommy?

Mamavation
The battle with fast food for last year. After all the comments last week I thought you might want a better understanding. First, I went to McDonalds a couple of hours before a boot camp class. I got really sick and haven't eaten there again. It wasn't McDonalds but the combination of fast food and exercise do NOT mix. I had to learn how far in advance to eat before that class. Second we are on the Dave Ramsey plan which means there is a restaurant budget. In a family of 5 that means we get to eat out once a month and maybe go have an ice cream treat. It's cheaper for us to eat at home and that helps us have a better diet. It's all intertwined.

Yesterday I was getting ready for church rummaging through my closet. I grabbed a pair of size 14 jeans and I was trying to get them on. My 2 year old was watching me. The jeans wouldn't zip or button, they didn't fit. I said, "they don't fit!" My little girl asked, "they don't fit Mommy?" "No they don't fit!" I said. Most horrible feeling ever. She had this disappointed for me look on her face. lol - I'm suppose to be her role model. That stunk. I'm so over this and now I'm totally serious. You will see what I'm doing further below.

Pizza Hut - 1 visit this month.

My Work Outs -
Monday - Boot Camp with Dex. Shred with Jillian.
Tuesday -Crossfit Training with Shaun. Shred with Jillian.
Wednesday - Boot Camp with Dex. Shred with Jillian.
Thursday - Shred with Jillian.
Friday -Boot Camp with Dex. Shred with Jillian
Saturday - Zumba, 1 mile walk and Shred with Jillian
Sunday -Elliptical, row machine and Shred with Jillian

Scale Reading - Back to where I started at the beginning of the year 179. That is a 4 pound loss this week.

Stress Level - The Mr. is gone for 2 weeks. Thursday and Friday were stressful but it's all gone now.

The UP side -I'm trying something new! It's working. I don't recommend it unless you are in my exact situation and you are doing research. I'm weighing in every single morning, keeping a food journal and working out. I'm tracking all of it so I can find out what my body is reacting too. So far it's working! I'm going to keep it up and see if it works this upcoming week as well.

A bit of inspiration for you ladies!
Remember - YOU are a role model.

I'm having to dig really deep here today. I'm in a terrible mood. I'm exhausted and having one of those don't ask what is going to happen next because it's going to be worse than what just happened days. lol

1.) Thankful that when I'm going through a difficult time a sermon from either Joel Olsteen or our church seems to not only apply but give me a different perspective on how to handle myself. In most cases it is much needed.

2.) Thankful for my family. They help me out so much when it's just me with the kids.

3.) Thankful I don't look at being a parent as a "job!" If I did I would be awful upset that there is no vacation, sick days, bonuses, pay, pay raises, over time, no expense account and no prospect of promotion!

4.) Thankful my son is home from his relaxing weekend at my mom's house. Lucky!

5.) Thankful for my super awesome hoodie! I feel like a total "Spartan Woman" every time I wear it. It's empowering!

Big Brother

Nope not the "Big Brother" government kind but the big brother that lives 10 minutes away and when I need help he's there. Today the little guy back there found the training wheels I bought (many months ago) for his hand me down bike from his big brother in the garage. He dragged the bike inside the house and opened up the kit! He was done waiting. I did my best to get it all together but I ran into a snag when it came to lowering the seat. I called my brother and he came over with his buddy and they had my son riding in minutes.

He was so excited! He didn't get to ride for very long but he is very excited to practice tomorrow. We are going to have to dig out the bike helmet with the flames on the side. He's going to love it!  I just can't believe how big he looks on that bike. It's going by so quickly. I'm so thankful to have a big brother that can help me with the little things that mean so much.

Aloha Friday #248 - In The Mix

I worked with a very good friend of mine for a year when I had my own online business. We had some good times and it was fun to have someone to bounce ideas off of.  There are lots of people that go into business with friends and the outcome can be a loss of the friendship. My questions for you is....

Do business and friendships mix?

You Should Hire Me! - Teacher, Guardian, Connector

Lately I have been encountering many ways to discover my personality type. The results are supposed to help me understand how I interact with others, how I work and where I'm most comfortable in any given situation. Being a person that studies the human sciences these are fascinating tools to me.
In our prayer group I took the first Kiersey test that came from the book Please Understand Me II and my results were ENFJ. Here is a snippet of what that code means: (taken from Wikipedia.com)
ENFJs focus on others, feeling a glow when those around them are happy, and troubled when something is amiss. They are natural cheerleaders, often expressing support, gratitude, and encouragement, and heaping praise onto those they appreciate. They take note of what is being done and what needs doing, offering their assistance wherever necessary.
ENFJs enjoy organizing group activities and tend to take their commitments seriously. In general, they are reliable and do not like to disappoint others. As team players and project leaders, they have a gift for rallying their players, focusing on what is being done right and each member's strengths. They are loyal and they expect loyalty. They carry conversations well, finding common ground with their speaker. They tend to find the correct and gracious way to respond in any given situation, no matter how tense or uncomfortable it is.
So far this is right on target! When I got home I was looking online for a friend of mine to take the test too and found an updated version of the test, The Kiersey Temperament Sorter . The site will give you a free report based on your answers. If you would like to pay extra you can get the report that tells you how your answers relate to a career and your learning styles too. The questions were similar but the results were not. Could it be that your answers change based on the environment that you are in when you take the test? Here is a brief summary of my results:
Guardians at Work
As a Guardian, you enjoy working as a valued member of a team, whether you are leading it or following a credible leader. You like to work with people who carry their weight. You appreciate having clear-cut responsibilities and being recognized for your dedication and achievements. Your natural traits are those that employers have traditionally valued - and that successful companies still respect. You are responsible and loyal to an organization once you've signed on.
In any environment, including your work place, you are usually focused on making people happy and facilitating harmonious relationships. You often lend "aid and comfort" by drawing on a combination of tradition, past experience, and the direction of established authority. In your ideal job, people would give of themselves and work toward the good of the group.
As a business owner I can clearly see why companies use personality tests during the hiring process. Have you ever wondered why? After tweeting about these tests I received an email from MyProfileTest.com. I was asked to take their test for a spin and give them constructive feed back. Here is a video clip and partial summary taken from their home page explaining more about the test.

What will you learn?

With My Profile Test, you not only receive your test results, you will gain access to our entire database of resources. By utilizing the wisdom of My Profile System, you will learn:
  • Who the great models of your thinking profile are
  • What makes you tick
  • When you can best take advantage of your life's opportunities
  • Where you belong in today's workforce
  • How you think and operate in everyday life

These tests make complete sense! You might not be in the right career field for your personality. Employers would like you to excel in the position that you are most comfortable. If you have a personality that best fits an accounting position then you wouldn't be very happy as a sales person. It takes two different types of people for those two positions.
If you are a small business owner - Should you hire or work with your friend? Most would say this is dangerous territory for a friendship. However, if you both took these types of tests then you would have a better idea if your personalities would connect on an employment level. Take the test and find out! Guess which one I am?

Lenny the Connector

The Connector is all about the deal. Connectors are extroverted, high-octane individuals who are limitlessly resourceful. With their wit, energy, and intuition, Connectors act as the bridges in life, connecting us with people and opportunities that better our lives and relationships.

How cool is that? Do you think most bloggers are "Connectors?"  These tests not only tell you more about your own personality and where you fit into the work force but help you relate to your spouse and your children. In the F.A.Q. section you can read more of their short explanations. I'm really thinking about having my ten year old son take this test. He and I relate in different ways but I need some help figuring how he thinks. Maybe these tests will help me relate to him better. I invite you to take some of these tests and see where you fit in. After all, knowledge is power!

Juno Jr. - The Day the Music Stopped DVD

The Juno company has released this wonderful dvd Juno Jr. The Day the Music Stopped. My children love the puppets, the music and the real live rabbit and cat that are in Juno and Rai Rai's room.

The mayhem begins with the "Shush machine" I have to tell you that I secretly want one of those! lol - The big red button on the "Shush machine" gets pushed by bunny and the town of Harmonia Springs is silenced.

Juno and her baby brother Rai Rai join in with Bunny, Buzz, Murphy and Indie to discover melody, rhythm, harmony and working together to bring the sound of music back to Harmonia Springs.

We loved the music, the introduction to the instruments and all the fun characters along the way! My children were head bobbing along with each of the songs. This is the type of dvd that your children will want to watch over and over again!

For every Juno Baby product sold, they donate a very special music education DVD to a child in need. What a wonderful way to give back. I can't wait to see what composer and mom Belinda Takahashi, Ph. D., comes up with next! Right now you can get free downloads of audiobooks, original orchestral music and iPhone and iPad applications at www.junobaby.com. Special thanks to USFamilyGuide.com and Juno Company for allowing our family to review a free copy of this dvd.

Can I Kiss Your Husband?

No really, would you mind if I kissed your husband smack dab on the lips? Oh sure it's right in front of you so no harm done right? It's not the European kissing where you give a smooch on each cheek. Check out this video clip from Bravo's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Camille Grammer, now the ex-wife of Kelsey Grammer gives her "friend" Nick Stabile (married) a welcoming greeting.

I'm afraid that many of us will read a little more into that friendship just based on body language. You would have to be a box of rocks not to notice. I just can't imagine greeting any of my friend's husbands like this unless I were seriously attracted to them. Even so, wouldn't I be crossing a line or something? Seems like the lips would be reserved for specific people. Isn't that hug a bit long? Should we count when we hug? ROFL... If I saw a woman kissing my husband on the lips I'm pretty sure there would be some discussions going on all the way around. What do you think?

Have you ever been injured starting a new exercise routine? Tell us about it…If not, do you get any aches and pains? Where?

YES! I've tried a lot of different exercises but running on the concrete created the worst pain in my shins. That put me out of commission for several months. I'm finally getting back on track.
