Tip The Scale Tuesday - Week 23

My trusty scale showed the same as last week. I didn't gain and I didn't lose. My kids are still with runny noses which means I haven't worked out all week. However, if you have been following my Tackle It Tuesdays you can clearly see I'm working out around the house. It's very liberating to purge clutter from every single room in your house. I can sense a garage sale coming on! It feels good to really begin getting organized. It's like I've been asleep for a year and just awoke in this very lived in house. I'm exhausted! Time to go watch The Biggest Loser for some much needed inspiration. Till next week... In the meantime let's go see how Angie did this week.

Prayerful Parenting

Today's lesson in our parenting class we were talking about being prayerful. It was interesting to hear stories in group about how children view the power of praying. How does a household become a prayerful one? Simply by example.

Tornado Toddler Strikes Again!

Oh yes, he's still up to his crazy shenanigans that tornado toddler of mine. Here is the latest in his little series of events. My husband made his famous steaks this evening and he left the spices out on the counter. He had a scout meeting and I was taking care of the baby. All of a sudden I smelled this overwhelming amount of spice smell. My nose led me through the kitchen and around the corner to find this!

And then I started the barrage of questioning, "what in the world are you doing?" "why is this all over the floor?" "why?!"

He calmly and very cutely looks at me and says, "I'm trying to mix it! I'm cooking like daddy." Talk about your get out of jail free card! How cute is that? How could I be mad? He was just trying to do what daddy does when he cooks. He already has an apprentice. His baby sister is now walking every where and she is getting into everything. He might be passing down his reign as the "Tornado Toddler." Stay tuned...

Flash Back Friday #62 - 1st U2 concert

Today I'm flashing back to my first U2 concert. I couldn't find any footage from their set in Houston so this will have to do. It doesn't really do it justice because they played at the summit, before it was Lakewood Church. They all look so young to me which means they are 20 years older now and so am I. That concert represents the last time I would ever be carefree. Little did I know! I'm just glad for the memories.

Thursday Thirteen # 83 - Projects

Lately I'm finding myself working on a lot of different projects. Are there 13 of them? I have no idea. Let's count and find out.

1.) Emily's Baby Shower - working on gathering sponsors, games, food and funds to cover it all.

2.) Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University - My hubs and I are taking the course at our church.

3.) Organizing my home with the help of Karen Nelson owner of Design With Your Dime In Mind.

4.) Parenting Classes offered at our church. Sorry no link for that one.

5.) Finding my spiritual gifts. There is an online assessment in case your curious.

6.) Working on this body of mine. I'm a strong believer of mixing up your workout routine and I love the classes offered by the YMCA.

7.) Getting ready for the Pumpkin Patch! I signed up to help for a couple of hours on a Saturday.

8.) Preparing for the Fall Party for my son's preschool class.

9.) Getting ready for a garage sale the first weekend of October. I can't wait to get rid of some of this stuff in our home. Remove the clutter!

10.) Organizing my paperwork so I can get on those taxes. Ugh!

11.) I'm baking some goodies for the Fall Festival. I'm thinking brownies. Mmmm

12.) Getting more sleep. My sleep cycle is off and I'm paying for it dearly.

13.) Working on getting internet access upstairs so I don't have to sit in this office chair all day!

Parenting Tips - Connecting With Your Child

Recently we have started taking a parenting class at church. We are always open to taking classes that allow us to share about our children and to learn tips on better ways to parent. This past Sunday our topic was about connecting to our children.
There were three great tips I wanted to share with my readers in hopes that it will help you to become more connected to your own children.

1. Try throwing a tennis ball back and forth. When you throw the ball, you ask a question and when they catch it they have to answer. When they throw the ball to you, they ask a question and you answer. Lot's of Dad's probably already use this method when playing catch with their boys. I'm pretty sure this method would work great with girls too.

2. HSM - Tell your child one thing that made you happy, sad and mad today. Have them do the same thing back to you.

3. Get a notebook to write in. Each day you could write your child a note and leave it under the pillow for them to read at night and they can write back to you. I remember doing this with my girlfriends in junior high. We would just pass it back to each other as we passed in the hall for our next class.

Our boys decorated these notebooks at church during a back to school party. I thought it would be a great way to use these notebooks they made and connect with them. I'm combining tips 2 and 3. The little guy can't read or write yet but I can save it until he can. Hopefully you will find these tips useful. If you have other ways that you use to stay connected to your children let me know!

Tackle It Tuesday - Dresser SOS

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

My dresser has been driving me nuts. I hate clutter but it is in every room of my house. Today I'm tackling this dresser in our bedroom. Every now and then I will use my bed for a project or to do laundry. Most of the time I don't get finished and when it is time for bed I move what is on the bed to my lovely dresser and that my friends is how it happens.

In half of an hour it is back to the clean surface that it should be. I'm amazed that once I get the kids occupied it really does take a short amount of time to just tackle it! I feel better already. This meme is really working for me because the week just seems to speed by and I'm getting things done. Whoo Hoo! Wanna join us for Tackle it Tuesday? Tip The Scale Tuesday - Week 22

The scale says my loss for this week is a whopping two pounds. That makes me want to go back to the spin class. That class is today though and it's raining and all the kids are going green and not the environmentally green kind either. Only 3 pounds until I get to see a completely different range of numbers. That was an exciting prospect until all the kids got sick. Now the cooties are coming for me. Being sick or at least not feeling 100% doesn't result in working out. Maybe this illness will pass quickly so I won't count myself out just yet. My ears really hurt though. *sigh* The food journal is just non existent this past week. I'm going to start it right now. New week, new journal entries, right?

Google Calendar - It's Becoming A Must Have Tool

courtesy of ccna.com.au

In light of our recent family get together my hubs suggested we use Google Calendar as a way of sharing our busy schedules and keeping in touch. It took me seconds to set it up and I was off to the races. My calendar is full and I can set reminders to email me before events or use pop up windows. My calendar can be shared with my whole family and notifications of events will be emailed to them as well. Another great feature is that I can create a calendar for each child to keep up with all of their practice and school schedules. The settings will also allow me to color code each of them for easier tracking! Now that is a cool gadget. My other family members can make calendars of their own and share them with me too. When they do I can click on their calendars and it will overlap onto my calendar. If your not using Google Calendar yet, maybe you should. It's a handy way to get organized while keeping in touch.

I also missed my blogoversary over the Labor Day weekend. That special date is going on my calendar so I get a reminder. My hope was to have a big bash but with the blog move and all it was not to be but that's ok. Maybe for my third year of blogging I can do something really fun.

Boogie Wipes - Make It Part of Your Cold Season Arsenal

Last week I picked up a 3 pack of Boogie Wipes to add to my cold season arsenal of supplies for the little people. I have seen other moms talk about them online but thought to myself, "why not just use a tissue?"

What a great buy this turned out to be. The kids noses started running Saturday and they have gotten progressively worse each day. My baby girl would see me coming with a Boogie Wipe and immediately start shaking her head no. That should give you an idea of how many times I have wiped her little nose. One of  the most surprising things about using the wipes is that her nose didn't get that red raw look that she normally gets when I use regular tissues.

Our little guy has the green mucus too. It's pretty gross so I will spare you the details. Another plus for using Boogie Wipes is that I can get his nose and the surrounding area cleaned up in one wipe. That is big plus to me because I don't have to fight him very long to wipe his nose.

If you haven't tried this awesome Mom invented product yet, you might want to consider buying them for the upcoming cold season. To find out why they are not your ordinary wipe please visit Boogie Wipes.com.

A Sort of Homecoming

Finally our eldest has returned home for a visit. We just tried to sit and listen to what she has been going through. Then we took our turn trying to catch her up from the last five months.

There are tons of books on what to do with your baby, how to get your toddler to cooperate or how to coexist with your teenager. There may be some out there but I haven't personally seen anything about dealing with your adult child. That relationship is completely different than any other stage of their life. To me, it's by far the most difficult stage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can make it through this stage too.

Flash Back Friday #61 - Flash Mob Dance!

The Black Eyed Peas performed during the new season of Oprah. I tried to find a short version but this is the best clip! You can move the player to the 2 minute mark to get to the beef of the clip. It isn't The Black Eyed Peas that makes this so cool, it's the city of Chicago and all the dancers. While trying to find this clip on You Tube I read some of the comments saying that it was fake. ROFL - It's not fake, ask anyone who was in the streets of Chicago that day. This is by far the coolest Flash Mob Dance I've ever seen and this is what I'm flashing back to today. Enjoy!

Spin Class 201 - Bring On The Pain

My friend Karen Nelson and I decided we needed to start getting our sweat on! We took water aerobics but it's just not enough. Now that school has started our schedules have changed. For me, taking a spin class was just scary. I've seen the class and I thought, "wow that looks crazy!" If you watch The Biggest Loser then you see those folks on spin bikes too. They are dripping with sweat and looking like they are having the workout of their lives.

Today we tried a Spin Class at the YMCA for the very first time. It's a beginner/intermediate class. If you decide to try this adventure make sure you have water and towel. You will need it!

I'm in so much pain but I got a great workout and goodness did I sweat! I mean dripping with sweat. Lucky for me the child watch lady came to get me to change the baby's diaper in the middle of the class. I was so thankful! I could barely walk but I went back to finish out the class. My legs are like Jello and my behind hurts. Those seats take some getting use to. I haven't been on a bike in many years. Will I go back, YES! I think it's great if you are trying to get your heart rate up. Our teacher said we did great because we were able to get our of our saddle. Wanna know what that mean? Try a spin class and find out!

Thursday Thirteen #82 - To Be A Kick Abs Blogger You Need

Lately I've been lacking the true supplies of what I think I need to be a totally kick abs blogger. It's not enough to have just a computer any more, oh no! You must keep up with the technology. Here's my list of what I think would help anyone become a kick abs blogger.

1.) High speed internet! You can't blog hop and upload cool videos in order to share on your blog without it.
2.) A desk top to store all of those video and photos that you have been posting. Many use photo shop or some sort of photography software to edit and watermark photos.
3.) A lap top to take with you so you can blog at all the cool coffee shops.
4.) WiFi or something to get wireless access on that lap top in case you want to blog in another part of your house.
5.) Web cam or some sort of computer that has a built in camera. How else can you join in all these video response sites and Mom TV?
6.) A Flip Camera or something similar so you can upload all your video footage to You Tube. It would be great for product reviews or just plain my kid is super cute doing this!
7.) Firefox is really the only way to go with web browsing. Google Chrome is ok but personally Firefox rocks my socks.
8.) IPhone or some super cool phone that takes great photos! Some times you see some really great photo opportunities when your out and about.
9.) A cell phone with a keyboard for texting and Twittering.
10.) A digital camera! For some of us our photos have become the heart of our blogs.
11.) A computer that can handle multi-tasking because you may want to listen to music while your editing your photos and blog hopping and answering emails. You want something that can handle a lot of tabs open.
12.) A good mouse! I recommend a WarmMe mouse to keep your hands warm. It's good stuff.
13.) You need all the social gadgets that tell you who is visiting your blogs! How else will you return the favor?

Tip The Scale Tuesday - Week 21

It's a one pound loss this week. I have no idea how that happened but I will take it. Monday I got back in the gym and I'm feeling better again. After a 3 week hiatus I was feeling sluggish and heavy and just plain gross. I enjoy working out because it makes me feel and sleep better. It's a great stress reliever. I'm also inspired because of the new season of The Biggest Loser. I love Bob and Jillian! I'm feeling great again about the path that I'm on and I'm really going to try for those 4 pounds because I really would like to see a different number in the tens place! Seriously it's been 21 weeks, it's time to move on.

Tackle It Tuesday - Laundry

Tackle It Tuesday Meme
This week I'm going for it! I've known about the @5minutesformom Tackle it Tuesday meme for about 2 years now? WOW has it been that long? Yes it has! Today I too have come to the conclusion that my house needs my love and attention. I'm going to make every effort to make it for this meme. I really think that this will help me stay on task. After all I need to start preparing for the arrival of Karen A. Nelson. Who is Karen A. Nelson? She is a fantastic online interior designer who owns Design With Your Dime In Mind. We met during a water aerobics at the YMCA. How cool is that? She is going to come over in a week and walk through my house to help me make it more, well more than it is and I need help! I'm so overwhelmed that I don't know where to begin. She's going to help me by offering a fresh pair of eyes. I'm super excited!

Today I'm tackling the laundry. Yes, that is a little person buried under there. He loves to play in the laundry. I guess because it's warm.

After a half of an hour I'm finished folding. See my baby girl? She is super proud of me! Now she can get out of her play pen, well after I put it all away. Other wise she will just pull it all down and then I'm back to square one. Join in if you like with all of the other woman trying to make a difference in their homes by tackling it on Tuesday.

And The Nominee for Rudest Person on the Planet Goes To...

This easily falls under the Totally Ticks Me off Tuesday meme hosted by Mommy From The Midwest. Are you following @TaylorSwift13? Do you read The Daily Blonde? I do and I love her stuff and after reading and seeing the Kanye West debacle it is my sincere hope that she will award him her famous AssHat Award.  Yesterday I saw a few articles about the interruption of Taylor Swifts acceptance speech by Kanye West. It wasn't until they replayed the MTV awards last night that I saw it for myself. It was shocking! That poor girl and her face oh geez my heart just sank. Immediately I thought Kayne West + Rude = Daily Blonde's AssHat Award.

Kayne West has always been a controversial character but there is a line between controversy and just plain RUDE. He was on Jay Leno last night apologizing. Words are not enough when you steal someone's thunder like that. There is a headline that reads Taylor Swift's mother "tears into" Kayne West. Well, heck yes! What mother wouldn't? Can you imagine the pride her mother feels for her getting recognized for all her accomplishments and then here comes KW to ruin her moment. Arg! There are no photos or links to Kayne because he doesn't deserve any on my blog but Taylor Swift, you are more than welcome!
She is on Facebook and Twitter too. Show her some love if you have time.

Patrick Swayze - Dirty Dancing Legend

Today we lost a dancing legend to pancreatic cancer at the young age of 57. When Dirty Dancing came out Em and I waited at the video store for 3 hours just to rent it. We were waiting for the person who rented it to return it to the video store. I can't believe we did that, we must have really want our Patrick Swayze fix. He was in The Outsiders and Ghost but really, who can forget Dirty Dancing? I'm so glad that his mom made him take dance lessons. We will miss that Texas southern charm!

Big Man on Campus

My son had been complaining about foot pain since his soccer tournament a couple of weeks ago. We have been icing his foot and keeping elevated. Then it occurred to my husband and I that maybe he needed new shoes. In the back of my mind I was thinking, "surely not we just bought him a pair in June and it's only September." We went to our favorite store for sports shoes, Academy.

My just turned 9 yo son is now shopping in the MEN's shoe section of the store folks. He was at the end of the youth size which is a 6 in June and crossed over into a whopping size 7 in then men's size. You would think I might know a thing or two about fast growth rate since I cater to bigger babies. I'm just amazed at the constant growth rate of our kids. An entire shoes size in three months. WOW! I hope this will cure his foot pain now. Special thanks to Nike for offering these super cool soccer shoes at Academy

Happy Grandparent's Day

What do you think? Is Grandparent's Day just another holiday made up by Hallmark? That's what I heard today. You know what? I don't care. I'm going to honor my Grandma and my children (the three in the house) will honor their Nana because frankly that is how I roll. We are big believers in teaching our children to respect our elders. Why shouldn't Grandparent's have their own holiday?

We thought it would be great to pick up one of these Blizzard Cakes from Dairy Queen. The cake that I chose was a Strawberry Cheesecake Blizzard Cake. It isn't pictured but it was available and it was hit! Nothing like a little ice cream cake with a hot cup of coffee. Now that is bliss!

Earliest Birthday Party Ever

I know, who has a birthday party at 7am? We do! Uncle Joe is here and he was going to leave at 6am but we turned it into a birthday breakfast party. My son was already planning out everything and what time I needed to start decorating. He is a hoot! But today I got him. He was completely surprised. See the look on his face.

He was really cool about the cake! His idea was for me to make the No Bake strawberry cheesecake mini cakes from Jello. That was so easy and then I topped it with Yoda and a Storm Trooper. I had to remove Yoda's robe so it wouldn't get red dye all over it. Geez the things I do!

My Mom and Grandma colored him this shirt while on our camping trip.

What party would be complete without Transformers?

Do you remember Mad Libs? I had to introduce these to my son. He is hooked now.

They have these party masks of Darth Vader and if you get them you will need an engineer to put them together. It's worth it though, they loved them.

I can explain! I had to edit this photo but I addressed the envelope to one of my children but it was the wrong child. OOPS! I just crossed it out and put my birthday boy's name on it. He understood. He gets my mommy brain. Thank goodness. I hope he doesn't end up on a therapist's couch for my error. rofl....
It's one of those musical cards and in this case it's the Imperial March. We are going to hear it all day. I would like to apologize to my husband now because it really seemed like a cute idea at the time. We've heard it about 50 times already and I'm sure we will hear it 50 more. I'm sorry.

Many thanks to the makers of Aunt Jemima for providing our lovely breakfast pancakes, Jimmy Dean for that yummy sausage and Log Cabin for the syrup. Also I would like to say thank you to JELLO for the easy No Bake cheesecake. We loved it! The Star Wars decorations were from Party City and the balloons were supplied by Kroger. A huge thank you to Mom and Grandma for cooking the breakfast and allowing us to use their home for the party. Now he doesn't have to wait all day to enjoy his presents.

Before you go, don't forget to link up! I'm sure we are in some of the same circles. Have a look around the side bars and don't forget to check the "Add Me" tab.
