The Digital Mom Handbook

A few days ago I mentioned my deadline to create a syllabus for a new online Sociology course examining social media. After The Digital Mom Handbook came out like many bloggers I was very excited for Colleen and Audrey. There are many of us that have watched them grow and watched their sites evolve. To be honest though, I'm a seasoned blogger. It didn't seem like there would be anything new that they would be teaching me. WRONG!

Hands down, in the we're not worthy position (insert image of Wayne's World here) there are new tricks to be learned. It was not my intent to start Blogging, vlogging, Tweeting and Facebooking my way into a dream career at home. I was looking for material for my class. I'm gathering information on what we could use to study groups who blog, tweet, facebook and You Tube. Here I am reading and flipping back and forth and I get to the chapter about finding my passion. My blog has always been just a mixed bag of the daily goings on in "Pam World." I do product reviews when it strikes me, host giveaways when I feel the prize is worthy, I post tons of stories about my kids and I'm always working on a better way to be fit and healthy. I'm a multi-tasking machine.

It occurred to me this morning while I was sitting in Sunday service of all places that my common thread is networking, teaching and sharing information. All of a sudden I have a flurry of ideas on how to begin organizing my own blog. Oh geez what is going on here? I had to get it out of my head. Then I lost the list, found I had put it in the trash and then had to dig it out. Yea, I did.
Here is my list and it was a brain storm for sure! I'm not sure where this is going to lead but I did redo my About Me, Contact and Disclosure pages. My Twitter bio got a bit of a hashtag update too. As I make changes I will let you know so you can travel with me through this book. Will this book turn you into the over night sensation you want to be? I don't know. Is it going to make the cut for my class? I don't know I'm still reading. I had to pause long enough to brainstorm, edit and then write this post!

A couple of quick tips to share:
Make your own Twitter Logo
Make your own Gmail Logo
Something about an angled head shot is suppose to make people want to engage you more. Whether or not to use those letters after your name for those degrees you have earned. Food for thought.

Oh and because of my plans for where this blog is going..... I had to create a new Facebook Fan Page! That is the bad part. Why? Because I needed to change the name of it. When you have over 100 people like your Fan Page guess what? You have to start over. I mean, from scratch! Not cool but it was necessary. I hope that while you are here you might have a heart and a second to check that like box there in the right hand corner of my blog so I can fill it back up. Please and Thank You.

#Mamavation #Fitcation - Avon Prize Winner!

How cute is this little flip flop pouch?
During our Twilight movie night with Orville Redenbacher's yummy popcorn we were randomly selected to win some super cool prizes! I was lucky enough to be one of the fitcation winners.
Guess what's inside the flip flop pouch?
 It's my own pedicure kit!
Plus these wonderful products from the Foot Works berry mint line.
Whoo Hoo! I can't wait to take care of my tootsies with these awesome products. They are going to smell so good. Thanks to Lori Gutierrez, our Houston Avon representative for donating such a nice "pamper me" gift!

FlipFlop Wines

I'm still opening lots of goodies from my #Mamavation #Fitcation11 Austin trip. Lucky for me one of my take home prizes was a bottle of  Riesling courtesy of FlipFlop wines. What a great prize to share with my good friend Karen. After all she helped me with wardrobe suggestions and packing for my big adventure. It was great to return home and share with her all the great stories over a glass of wine. We love the branding and the taste. They have tons of other flavors which you can find on their website. During our evening together we got to see a bit of the Housewives of Orange County reunion show. Now that's a fun evening!

You know what else is a huge thumbs up?
What a great pairing to help those in need. If you do drink an alcoholic beverage please remember to drink responsibly. FlipFlop wines has not compensated me for my opinion.

Reality Baby Shower - It's A Boy!

You might have been to a few of my online cyber baby showers or you might have even been a sponsor. I have hosted for Janice and Susan @5minutesforMom, Colleen Padilla @ClassyMommy, Margie Gunn @Chesapeake Ribbons, Candace @Mamanista and Sarah @SassyFrazz. It's been a while since I have hosted mainly because I had a baby of my own. Now I get to host one offline! This is my very first shower to host and I'm so happy to finally return the favor to my friend. This will be an ongoing post. Join me as I plan this big event and see what products I'm going to use. If you would like to sponsor a gift and be included in this offline event with a live audience please contact me. There will be lots of links, photos and video footage! Whoo Hoo.

Planning a live baby shower
Step 1: Choose a date and time - (November 14th)  time (not included for privacy)
Step 2: Location - check (not included for privacy)
Step 3: Gather address list - Special thanks to Google Documents. Mom to be and I were able to share a spreadsheet back and forth to complete all the addresses.
Step 4: Choose invitations - Special thanks to Tiny Prints for sponsoring the invitations. Everyone is going to be oohing and ahhing. To see how Tiny Prints has helped me, please click on the link. I'm happy that no one will throw their invite away because that is a photo of Emily with her baby bump! That one is going in a keep sake album of some sort.
Step 5: Heading to Babies R Us and Target to help mom to be register for baby items.
Step 6: Joined in the #MomsRock Twitter party to find Mom Made products and Lois Whittaker from Cushie Pushie is going to sponsor her Mom Made Cushie Pushie for the shower.
Step 7: Invitations from TinyPrints.com have arrived and mom to be is very pleased! Now to get them mailed out so our guests have plenty of time to shop.
Step 8: More sponsors want to shower the baby with gifts galore! Vanessa from My Mommys Bracelets, Shari Murphy from Baby Banz, Colleen Padilla from Classy Mommy, Karen Nelson from Design With Your Dime In Mind, Margie Gunn from Chesapeake Ribbons and Cynthia Poblete creator of The Diaper Clutch. I'm throwing in a custom made diaper cake from Happy Panda.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
The new parents are having a baby crib set dilemma. Can you help decide? Please cast your vote on the left side bar where the poll is located! (poll closed) Thank you.
Photos and products are listed at Nursery Depot.
Option One - Boxers or Briefs

Special thanks to Karen Nelson from Design With Your Dime In Mind who has offered her services to help decorate the baby's nursery!

Step 9: Food check! Emily's husband is going to cater the big event and we are going with a Mexican food theme. How does beef and chicken enchiladas sound? He's not forgetting the chips and queso.

Step 10: Emily's mom is taking care of the table center pieces and goodie bags. By the way she is using her Cricut. I'm amazed at what that machine can do.

Step 11: What to drink? Coffee, water and Blue Punch! How cool is that? If you want I can post the recipe. It was great but the recipe only makes one batch. I made two batches but should have made three.

Step 12: Sam's Club for cutlery, plates and cups, Party City for game items and table coverings and Wal-Mart for prize items and punch ingredients.

Step 13: Burleson Florist for Emily's corsage.

Step 14: The Cake! - I have chosen a cupcake cake. The plan is to have 15 red velvet, 15 yellow, 15 chocolate and 15 french vanilla. The top will be frosted with the invitation photo (Tiny Prints.com) and the baby's name written underneath. Special thanks to Jenny's Bakery. Their customer service is top notch and they come HIGHLY recommended. When I asked my work out buddies at the YMCA several of them said, Jenny's Bakery. When I asked my mother who works at NASA she said her coworkers and the event planner their also recommended Jenny's Bakery.

Step 15: 4 games! How many diapers are on the diaper cake? What's that smell? (the dirty diaper game)

The clothes pin game, you collect the pins off the person who says baby. The person who has the most pins at the end is the winner. How well do you know the Mommy to be? What do we do if we have a tie? No problem! They will have to answer a question about the Daddy to be.

Step 16: The slide show.

Step 17: Have I missed anything? Nope. For video footage of the shower click here.

Before you go, don't forget to link up! I'm sure we are in some of the same circles. Have a look around the side bars and don't forget to check the "Add Me" tab.

Boogie Wipes - Make It Part of Your Cold Season Arsenal

Last week I picked up a 3 pack of Boogie Wipes to add to my cold season arsenal of supplies for the little people. I have seen other moms talk about them online but thought to myself, "why not just use a tissue?"

What a great buy this turned out to be. The kids noses started running Saturday and they have gotten progressively worse each day. My baby girl would see me coming with a Boogie Wipe and immediately start shaking her head no. That should give you an idea of how many times I have wiped her little nose. One of  the most surprising things about using the wipes is that her nose didn't get that red raw look that she normally gets when I use regular tissues.

Our little guy has the green mucus too. It's pretty gross so I will spare you the details. Another plus for using Boogie Wipes is that I can get his nose and the surrounding area cleaned up in one wipe. That is big plus to me because I don't have to fight him very long to wipe his nose.

If you haven't tried this awesome Mom invented product yet, you might want to consider buying them for the upcoming cold season. To find out why they are not your ordinary wipe please visit Boogie Wipes.com.

Before you go, don't forget to link up! I'm sure we are in some of the same circles. Have a look around the side bars and don't forget to check the "Add Me" tab.

Mii Wii

He did it! He hooked up my Wii game with the Wii Fit. We are all over weight and very old according to our game. We are convinced that it has something to do with the board being on the carpet. None of us have balance! It's going to be a lot of fun playing with my new toy.

We also have the sports package and I have to say that I really do enjoy boxing and golf. My husband and I were busy knocking each other out after the kids went to bed. Now that was fun!

We lost the EA Sports Active game. It's somewhere around here. That's the last thing that needs to be set up. We have to finish our game of bowling tonight. I really love my Wii. Thanks my super husband for getting it for me for my birthday.

Baby Trend Sit N Stand LX Stroller, Silverstone

This stroller right here has given me my freedom back! I'm not kidding. My friend told me about it and there it was at Toys R Us and now I have my walks again. Our baby girl can't sit up on her own yet and our toddler likes to run around. Using our wagon was just not going to cut it. Now I can put the baby in the front and the toddler in the back. He doesn't like to stand on it, he likes to sit. When he sits down he faces me. Now I can go back to walking our son to school in the mornings. We can walk the track at the park with ease. Our toddler can walk the track too and if he gets tired he can sit and buckle up. It's not as compact as I would like it to be when it folds up but I really like this design. My hubby was impressed with the shock absorbers. I'm happy to have a place to put my little people so that I could have a more active life style again!

The Posh Parent - I'm a Winner!

Special thanks to Shake The Salt who helped me win at The Posh Parent. What's the big deal? I won a baby pouch from Rockin Baby Slings. Heck yes it's a big deal because I need my hands to be free. I had been contemplating getting one and I even tweeted about it looking for recommendations and a few weeks later I was blessed with a surprise win and this is my review. My daughter Q and I have a blast checking out the latest baby products. I will call her and she comes over and we play! We tried the different positions. First we tried the back carry position for the toddler he's 33 pounds. It works great! I'm still getting use to all the positions and it does take some getting use to but I love it! The baby loves it. Her favorite when she is fussy is the cradle hold position but when she's happy she loves the kangaroo position! Here's a little video footage for your viewing pleasure.

ListPlanIt.com - Win It Here!

Meet Jennifer Tankersley! If you haven't heard of her yet don't worry you will. She's the creator of ListPlanIt.com. Right now her company is all the buzz around the blogosphere. She has created a service that no business owner, blogger, parent or student should be without. ListPlanIt.com can simplify your life in a matter of a few clicks. Who wouldn't want that? She could give Franklin Covey a few ideas.

What makes Jennifer Tankersley's service so great is that she has already done the work for you. I had a great time using her service and checked through every single list available and even submitted a few suggestions of my own. Many companies allow you to fill out pdf forms online but your not allowed to save the data once you type it in. That to me is very frustrating. I like to work smart not hard! What's great is that you can type inside of a list, save it and print it straight from your computer. If you need to share it with a coworker or spouse you could email it too. Allow me to highlight some of my favorite lists.

For bloggers or business owners these are awesome!
  • Promotion Tracker - keep track of your products/giveaways and the Alexa Ranking is a very cool feature.
  • NEWSLETTER PLANNER -- It is usually easier to see a newsletter laid out before you begin to create the final copy. Use this page as a preliminary worksheet.
For those who are new to Mommybid this would be great!
  • # ONLINE AUCTION LISTINGS (Buy) -- A Wish List for items you'd like to purchase through an online auction webiste.
    # ONLINE AUCTION LISTINGS (Sell) -- Use this page to help you get your items for sale on an online auction. Instead of scratching information about your lots on a piece of scratch paper, use this form and put it in a binder for your records.
  • ADVERTISING TRACKER -- Be sure to keep a record of every place that you use paid or free advertising. In the long run, it will help you decide where to concentrate your efforts.
  • GOALS AND ACHIEVEMENTS -- Ever feel like you're tires are spinning but you're not getting anywhere? Write down just what you want to push yourself to do during a week and then be sure to record your accomplishments.
For personal or family
  • DAILY REMINDERS -- This planning page helps everyone remember what they need to grab, pack, or prepare before they leave the house today. Fill in the date under each day of the week, then just scan across to quickly be reminded that today is library day for Sue, P.E. day for Henry, and Daddy needs to pick up his dry cleaning. Hang on a cork tile located right next to the door.
  • THOUGHTFUL THURSDAYS -- Plan out a month's worth of ways of being thoughtful to those around you. PERFECT for the family.
  • HOME FIRE SAFETY PLANNING -- Now has never been a better time to discuss your family's plan for evacuation in the case of a fire. Use thispage to arm yourself with the confidence that you and your loved ones will be ready should the unthinkable happen.Perfect for hubby.
  • RESPONSIBILITY LIST (Infant/Toddler) -- Suggested list of tasks for even the littlest ones. Train a child early on to believe that they are an essential member of the family.
  • POTTY TRAINING -- Steps to keep in mind during this intense and trying, but eventually liberating, time.
  • CAUGHT YA! (BEING GOOD) -- Remember the good stuff, too! Reward kind actions and obedient behavior.
  • COOPERATION ACTIVITIES -- If you find yourself constantly sending embattled siblings off to their room to "separate", next time try one of these activities to promote cooperation and teamwork.
  • DIVISION OF LABOR -- Stop battling it out with your spouse over whose job it is to take out the trash or do the laundry. Assign responsibilities here and know that everyone is pulling his/her weight.
For our recent natural disaster that we just experienced.
  • EMERGENCY EVACUATION INVENTORY -- If ever the unfortunate event of needing to evacuate your home at a moment's notice should arise, be prepared with this list. Keep a completed page in both you and your spouse's nightstand or in the hall bureau so it can be located in a jiffy. There be very little time to spare. Don't spend it trying to think about what you need. Just grab the list and get going!
I could go on and on about all the great lists that are useful to me but I would love for you to go visit ListPlanIt.com yourself. Please take a look around because Jennifer Tankersley has graciously allow me to give away a 3 month membership to one winner her on my blog!

How can you win? Easy! Visit ListPlanIt.com and come back here and tell me which list would be most useful in your life.

Boogie Shoes - Day 158

Oh my poor feet! Yesterday was just a joke for my feet. I had to go and get my son from grandma's house. I couldn't find my flip flops so I grabbed a pair of sandles and I couldn't get my feet inside them! Then I grabbed my favorite sketchers and put those on. My skin was busting out of the straps. Are you grossed out? I was! My feet were so swollen and eventually I just had to take them off. These shoes are great but I don't recommend the sight see style. Your big toe can make a nice little hole in the netting. They are cute but not to be worn for long periods of time. All the other styles are cute but I would avoid the netting. Academy carries a wide selection of Skechers. I will be thankful when I stop swelling and get my body back to some sort of normalcy. That made me think of KC and The Sunshine Band's Boogie Shoes which as you might have guessed is now my song of the day! Enjoy.

Stress Relief

Today I have noticed that I have some fairly odd reactions to high levels of stress. My first reaction is to bake or make some sort of sweet dessert. It's not enough to just cook something, no it must involve something sweet! Today's line up is Jello no bake strawberry cheesecake. I made the mini cakes. There is a recipe that involves making them in baking cups. I haven't eaten them nor do I normally eat what I make I just make it. I guess it's something to do with my hands. OK - Let me at least try one so that I can tell you what it tastes like. One moment please, WOW! They are so good. I'm going to have to pawn these off on some people because I'm danger of eating them all. I'm going to give a thumbs up on this one. They were very easy to make too.

The other thing that I do when I'm super stressed out is color. I know that sounds odd but again I think it might have something to do with keeping my hands busy. There is a charity called Color A Smile. They have online pictures to print and color. When you are finished you mail the colored pictures to them and they give them out to people in need of a smile. There you have it a new way to combat stress and teach your kids about a neat charity. http://www.colorasmile.org/

Happy Valentine's Day to me

First thing this morning before I got out of bed I was thrown a heart shaped velvet box of Dove chocolates. It's the Truffle Hearts Collection! How sweet and what a wonderful way to wake up. It was followed by "Happy Valentine's Day Mommy!" Yes, my little guy was the first to greet me with holiday cheer. I've never eaten any of the Dove brand chocolates. I know where have I been? I don't know but here it goes. There is a mix of the Truffle Heart - Dark and Truffle Heart - Milk. They are both pretty good, 2 down and only 14 more to go. Oh boy!

Makes you slender in a second!

OK so I bit! I was at my local Sam's Club the other day and saw these jeans. I'm still waiting until I can fit into my Levi's that are all hanging in my closet. Needless to say with my situation it's going to be at least another year! Any way I see these jeans and it says, "The Marissa Fit Jean", "Makes you slender in a second!" Really? But there's more the little marketing graphic attached to the jeans says they are stretch! It shows me the Before and After and it's going to "Enhance curves where I desire with a comfortable fit." Oh - I'm in! I grab a size 14 just because I don't know what size I am. I haven't bought a pair of jeans since??? You get the picture. I bring them home and try them on and low and behold do they stretch! They are too big. When I walk they slide down my muffin hips! How is this possible?? I have no idea but they do feel good. Did they make me slender in a second? Not at all. Could be that 14 is not the right size for me. They are good enough to keep around though. I'm going to grow so why not. In order to really test these out I'm going to have to go back and get a smaller size. Woo Hoo! Then I might be able to tell you if I look slender in a second. Right now, it's not working for me. LOL
I did try to Google these jeans and I can't find them any where! If I find them I'll be sure to link them.

A Review in Popsicles

Yes, I truly love Popsicles! I enjoy the bomb pops (red, white and blue), the fudge bombs (chocolate, banana and chocolate) and lots more. These aren't good for me at all so I try to find all natural fruit bars. Dreyers rocks for these! I buy them all the time!

They have come out with these smoothie bars that are banana and strawberry. My kids LOVE them!!!! These are suppose to be good for us as well. They are low calorie blah, blah, blah - they are so yummy who cares! LOL

While in the freezer isle I noticed these swirl bars by Weight Watchers. They look really yummy and they have 2 points printed on the box. I pass them up because I figured they most likely weren't very good. WRONG!!!! I did grab a box the next time I saw them, just to check it out. Oh they are soooooooo yummy! They taste just like Dreamsicles! I love Dreamsicles. You know, popsicle on the outside and icecream on the inside? Well, Weight Watchers out did themselves. I'm not on a diet or anything but I do have to watch what I eat! I don't know what 2 points means but I don't really care. LOL - These are great! My kids love these too. I'm trying to figure out the best way for me to snack while not gaining a great amount of weight with our latest little bun. I'm trying to stay positive but history has taught me that I tend to gain an enormous amount of weight while pregnant. I'm really gonna give it my best effort this time around! Wish me luck.
